MTSIN
MTS is what Sony, Panasonic and Canon camcorders write when recording AVCHD, typically H.264 at 1080i or 1080p with multichannel audio. The files live inside a folder structure on the memory card rather than standing on their own. Convert them once they are copied off, since plenty of editing software and nearly every phone will not open MTS directly.
WMVOUT
WMV is Microsoft's video format, tuned to stay watchable at low bitrates on a slow connection. It shows up in older corporate training material, screen recordings and anything made with Windows Movie Maker. Outside Windows it is awkward, so convert WMV before sending footage to Mac users or posting it on a site.
