WAV compression

Raw audio,
cut down to size

Uncompressed audio is enormous because it stores every sample in full. Step the rate, the depth or the channel count and the file shrinks accordingly.

Three levels

Each one is a fixed combination of sample rate, bit depth and channels.
LowORIGINAL RATE · 16-BIT

The sample rate is untouched and only the bit depth is settled at 16. Masters and music keep their character; expect a modest saving.

Medium22050 HZ · 16-BIT

Half the sample rate. The top octave goes quiet, everything below it stays where it was. Sensible for spoken word and sound design assets.

Strong11025 HZ · 8-BIT MONO

Rate, depth and channels all step down together. Reserved for voice memos, dictation and archives where intelligibility is the only requirement.

The container does not change

This tool does not turn your recording into an MP3. What comes back is still linear PCM in a WAV wrapper, so editors, samplers, transcription tools and broadcast systems open it exactly as they did before. You are trading resolution for size, not compatibility.

01

Add the WAV files

Up to 10 at a time, 50 MB each. Field recordings, exports from a DAW and dictation all qualify.

02

Choose a level

Low, Medium or Strong. The level decides the sample rate, the bit depth and whether stereo is folded to a single channel.

03

Check the saving

Before and after sizes are listed per file. Download them individually or pull the finished set in one go.

Storage adds up fast

A stereo minute at CD resolution is over ten megabytes. Stepping a spoken-word archive to mono takes most of that back.

Batch the session

Send 10 takes through with one level rather than opening an editor for each of them.

One-way trip

Resolution removed here cannot be restored later. Keep your master somewhere safe before you compress the copy.

Uploads are deleted once the compressed file is ready.See the plans →
