BMP compression

BMP files,
trimmed down

Usually 10-30% lighter through metadata stripping + re-encoding. Same extension, same dimensions, nothing renamed.

What happens to a BMP

BMP writes raw pixel rows much as Windows laid them out decades ago, which is why it still appears in older software, drivers and clip-art libraries. There is not much structure left to squeeze, so re-encoding and clearing padding and stray metadata brings the size down. If the file only has to open in a browser or sit in a document, converting it to PNG or WebP will do far more for its size than compressing the BMP.

Three steps

01

Add the BMP files

Drag them into the panel above or browse for them. Up to 20 at a time, 5 MB each.

02

The route runs itself

Metadata stripping + re-encoding is applied to every file, tuned so the result holds up next to the original on screen.

03

Take the lighter copy

Compare the two sizes, read the saving, and download the BMP file on its own or with the rest of the batch.
