AVIF compression

AVIF files,
trimmed down

Usually 20-40% lighter through lossy re-encoding. Same extension, same dimensions, nothing renamed.

What happens to a AVIF

AVIF stores a still image with the AV1 video codec, which is how it holds detail at sizes older formats cannot reach, and it carries transparency, wide color and high dynamic range along with it. Browser support is now broad enough to ship with a JPEG fallback. Exports still tend to sit above the quality a screen can show, and a second encode frees another 20-40%. Choose it when bandwidth is the limit and you control the markup.

Three steps

01

Add the AVIF files

Drag them into the panel above or browse for them. Up to 20 at a time, 5 MB each.

02

The route runs itself

Lossy re-encoding is applied to every file, tuned so the result holds up next to the original on screen.

03

Take the lighter copy

Compare the two sizes, read the saving, and download the AVIF file on its own or with the rest of the batch.
