Both formats, briefly

PFA

PFAIN

PFA is a PostScript Type 1 font written out as readable ASCII. The outlines are cubic curves stored as PostScript code you can open in a text editor, which is part of why the format lingered in places where fonts get inspected or patched by hand. You will run into PFA in TeX and LaTeX installations, older print pipelines and PostScript imagesetter setups. Since design software has dropped Type 1 support, converting PFA to OTF is the usual way to keep an old typeface in service.

EOT

EOTOUT

EOT is Microsoft's compact wrapper around an OpenType font, made so a web page could load custom type back when Internet Explorer was the only browser that permitted it. Inside the proprietary header sits a TrueType font, tied to the sites cleared to use it. Today's browsers ignore EOT and expect WOFF2 instead. Producing one is worth doing only when something old has to keep working, such as an intranet tool pinned to a legacy version of IE.
