Both formats, briefly
DOTMIN
DOTM is the macro enabled version of a Word template. Every document made from it inherits both the house formatting and the VBA behind it, which is how organizations distribute forms and document generators that behave the same for everyone. That macro support is also why security policies treat these files carefully.
TXTOUT
A .txt file holds characters and line breaks and nothing else. No fonts, no styles, no hidden metadata. That bareness is the point: every editor on every system can read one, so plain text suits notes, logs, config files and anything you want to stay readable decades from now.
Three steps, start to finish
