M4AIN
M4A is an MPEG-4 container holding audio and nothing else, nearly always AAC and occasionally Apple Lossless. It keeps chapter marks, artwork and bookmark positions, which is why audiobooks and podcasts lean on it as much as music does. When a player rejects an M4A, converting to MP3 is the usual fix.
OPUSOUT
Opus is a modern codec aimed at real time sound. It encodes with very little delay, changes bitrate on the fly, and stays intelligible when bandwidth drops away. Voice and video calling tools use it for exactly that, and WebRTC treats it as the default. Music encodes well too, but standalone hardware rarely supports it, so convert before loading files onto an older player.
