Both formats, briefly
OGGIN
Ogg Vorbis is an open, patent-unencumbered lossy format that holds together well at middling bitrates, which is why game engines, Linux software and open source projects ship sound in it. Browsers and desktop players read it, though car head units and older hardware frequently do not. Use OGG when licensing matters to your project and MP3 when the listener's device is a guess.
OPUSOUT
Opus is a modern codec aimed at real time sound. It encodes with very little delay, changes bitrate on the fly, and stays intelligible when bandwidth drops away. Voice and video calling tools use it for exactly that, and WebRTC treats it as the default. Music encodes well too, but standalone hardware rarely supports it, so convert before loading files onto an older player.
