TAR.LZMA pairs a TAR bundle with the original LZMA compressor, the ancestor of the XZ format used today. Compression is strong, but current tools write .tar.xz instead, so this ending mostly turns up on older files. Convert one when you want something modern software opens without argument.

On Linux that makes it the usual first step before a compressor such as gzip or xz runs over the result.
