RARIN
RAR is a closed format from the makers of WinRAR, known for splitting one large archive into numbered parts and for recovery data that can survive minor damage. Writing RAR files needs licensed software, though reading them is common. Upload a RAR here when somebody sent you one and you would rather keep working in an open format.
ZIPOUT
Windows, macOS and Linux all open ZIP files with no extra software, which is why it stays the default for sending a folder to someone. Compression is moderate and unpacking is quick.
