OGVIN
OGV holds Theora video and Vorbis audio inside an Ogg container, all from the Xiph.Org family of open standards. Projects that avoid patent encumbered codecs on principle adopted it, and it still turns up in wiki media and older Linux documentation. WebM covers the same ground better now, so OGV is usually something you convert away from.
WEBMOUT
WebM was built by Google for video that plays inside a web page with no plugin involved. It pairs VP8 or VP9 video with Opus or Vorbis audio, and no codec royalties attach to it, so shipping it on a site raises no licensing questions. It suits background clips, product demos and anything embedded straight into HTML.
