Both formats, briefly
MPEGIN
MPEG names the family of compression standards behind DVD video, digital television and a great deal of older archive footage. Files with this extension are normally MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, which trade efficiency for the ability to play on almost any hardware ever built. Convert MPEG when the file size gets in your way or a modern device refuses it.
OGVOUT
OGV holds Theora video and Vorbis audio inside an Ogg container, all from the Xiph.Org family of open standards. Projects that avoid patent encumbered codecs on principle adopted it, and it still turns up in wiki media and older Linux documentation. WebM covers the same ground better now, so OGV is usually something you convert away from.
