MP4 is the container to reach for when a file has to play somewhere you do not control: a phone, a smart TV, a browser tab, a client's laptop. Inside it you will usually find H.264 or H.265 video next to AAC audio, with room for subtitle and chapter tracks. Choose MP4 when broad compatibility matters more than anything else about the file.
3GPOUT
3GP is a stripped down container written for 3G phones. It holds small frame video and low bitrate audio so a clip fits in limited storage and travels over a slow connection. Older handsets and basic feature phones record straight to it, and most people are converting 3GP outward rather than into it.
