SVGIN
An SVG stores a drawing as instructions rather than a grid of pixels. Lines, curves and fills are redrawn at whatever size the page asks for, so one file looks sharp as a 16 pixel icon and as a printed poster. That makes it the right pick for logos, icons, charts and interface graphics. The contents are XML, so you can edit an SVG in a text editor and style or animate it with CSS. Photographs are the one thing it handles badly.
GIFOUT
GIF is the old format that short looping animations never left. Each frame is limited to 256 colors, which keeps files small and flat artwork clean while photographs come out banded. Compression is lossless within that palette, and transparency is a simple on or off per pixel with no soft edges. Pick GIF when you want a moving image that plays in any browser, email client or chat window without a video player.
