DDSIN
DDS keeps textures in the form a graphics card wants to receive them. Block compressed data such as DXT and BC stays compressed in video memory, and mipmaps, cube maps and volume textures can all sit in the same file, so an engine loads it and draws with it directly. If you are modding a game, preparing assets for DirectX, or looking at art unpacked from a title, DDS is what you are handling.
WBMPOUT
WBMP stores one bit per pixel, black or white with nothing in between, and was designed for the WAP browsers on early mobile phones. The files are tiny, which still matters on hardware with very little memory or bandwidth. Phones moved on long ago, but the same monochrome bitmap is exactly what embedded displays, e-paper panels and thermal label printers work in.
