CR2IN
CR2 is the raw file a Canon camera writes: sensor readings, plus the shooting settings stored as notes instead of baked into the picture. Nothing has been demosaiced or contrast adjusted yet, so you can reset white balance, pull back a blown sky and grade color later without the damage those edits cause in a JPG. The costs are size and compatibility. CR2 files are heavy, and many programs and upload forms will not read them, so photographers export a JPG or TIFF copy for everyone else.
WEBPOUT
WebP was built by Google to cover on the web what JPG and PNG cover separately. A single format handles lossy photos, lossless graphics, transparency and short animations, and files generally come out smaller than the JPG or PNG equivalent at matching quality. Every current browser reads it, so it is a safe default for site images. Choose something older when the file has to open in legacy desktop software.
