AZW3IN
AZW3, also called Kindle Format 8, is what Amazon uses on current Kindle devices and apps. Next to MOBI it understands HTML5 and CSS3 markup, embedded fonts and more deliberate page layouts, so drop caps, tables and styled headings survive the trip instead of flattening out. Choose AZW3 when a book is going onto a Kindle and you care how the page looks, not just that the words arrived. Finished files carry the .azw3 extension and sideload over USB or by sending them to your device.
FB2OUT
FB2, short for FictionBook, keeps a whole book inside one XML file: chapters, paragraphs, footnotes, cover art and the metadata describing them. The structure is marked up rather than laid out, so software can re-render or convert the book without guessing where a chapter begins. The format is common in Russian-language catalogues and is handled by a long list of desktop and mobile readers. Convert to FB2 when the library or app you are feeding asks for it, and away from FB2 when the book needs to land on a Kindle or Kobo.
