CSV stores a table as lines of text with commas between the values. There is no styling and no formulas, just rows and columns, which is exactly why databases, analytics tools and every spreadsheet program accept it. Use it to move data between systems that share nothing else.

Every document made from it inherits both the house formatting and the VBA behind it, which is how organizations distribute forms and document generators that behave the same for everyone.
